About the treatment

What does it involve?

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-invasive treatment in which medical pigment is applied to the dermal layer of the scalp. Each point creates the optical impression of a hair follicle — the result is a sharp, shaved appearance or increased visual density for thinning hair. SMP works for fully bald scalps, hairline definition, camouflaging FUE scars and optically thickening thinning hair. The result is long-lasting — a touch-up is only needed after 3 to 5 years.

How the treatment unfolds

  1. Design and colour matching

    The doctor designs the hairline and selects the pigment colour based on your hair colour, skin tone and aesthetic preference.

  2. First session

    The first session lays the base layer. Micro-needles deposit pigment at a regulated depth. The session lasts 2 to 4 hours depending on the treatment zone.

  3. Second and third sessions

    Follow-up treatments deepen the colour and refine density. An interval of 7 to 14 days between sessions. Total of 2 to 3 sessions per treatment.

  4. Recovery

    2 to 3 days of redness and sensitivity. Avoid swimming and sweating for 7 days. Sun protection on the treatment zone is recommended.

What patients ask

Yes. SMP uses specialised pigments and needles designed for the scalp. The pigment is applied more superficially than a tattoo, fades earlier and requires a touch-up. A regular tattoo artist is not trained for SMP.
